What is ATS Keyword Density?

The frequency and distribution of job-relevant keywords in a resume, which directly affects ATS match scoring and the probability of reaching a human reviewer.

ATS keyword scoring works by comparing the text of your resume against a parsed version of the job description. Keywords that appear in the JD but not in your resume reduce your match score. Keywords that appear multiple times with relevant context (embedded in achievements, not just a keyword dump) increase it.

There are two types of keywords in ATS scoring: hard skills (Python, SQL, Salesforce, PMP certification) and soft skills (leadership, cross-functional, stakeholder management). Hard skills carry significantly more scoring weight, but soft skill matches act as tiebreakers.
