The official H-1B employer file is the USCIS data hub. Here is how to use that, plus a shorter list of sponsors that names the board each company uses so you can apply on the right site.

An H-1B search fails in two places. The first is applying to employers who have never filed a petition. The second is applying on a job board copy instead of the company's own site, where the sponsorship question actually lives.
Start with the official file
The USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub is the public record of employers that filed petitions. Use it when you need the full set, not a curated sample. Search the employer name before you spend an evening on a posting that will ask "Will you now or in the future require sponsorship?" and then screen you out.
A university career guide or a third-party sponsor database can be a second check. They are not a substitute for the petition record.
Use a list that tells you where to apply
The H-1B sponsor companies page is the employers in our company guides that we mark as H-1B sponsors. It is not the full Department of Labor disclosure file. Each row has the sector, the headquarters, and the board that company uses (Workday, Greenhouse, and the rest), and it links to the hiring guide.
That is the practical step the government file does not do: you can see how that employer accepts applications, then open the guide and the live roles.
The written search plan is on H-1B visa jobs. F-1 and OPT timing is a different constraint. Read F-1 OPT jobs if that is your status.
A workable order
Pick the role you can do this year, not every title that might sponsor.
Check the employer on the USCIS hub or on the sponsor list.
Open the company career site, not only LinkedIn or Indeed.
Read the sponsorship question before you tailor the resume. If the posting says they will not sponsor, stop.
Submit one strong application on that site. A resume written for a different req does not get a second reading because the company has filed H-1B petitions before.
Sponsorship history means they have filed. It does not mean this req, this team, or this year is open to a new petition. Ask the recruiter which they are hiring for.
If the forms are the bottleneck after you have the employer list, the job application service files them, with the resume rewritten for that posting.
